Roberta (Riley) Chadwell

Roberta “Berta” Riley Chadwell, 83, of Beallsville, Ohio passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024.  She was born July 4, 1940 in Beallsville, a daughter of the late Frank and Myrtle (Goodrich) Riley

Roberta was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was a member of the former Chapter #24 Order of Eastern Star, Beallsville and had been employed by the Switzerland of Ohio School District  having worked at both the Beallsville School and the Swiss Hills Career Center for many years.  Roberta was a caring and compassionate soul who found joy in making a difference in young lives and helping others.  She enjoyed genealogy and had worked diligently studying and compiling the history of generations of the Riley and Chadwell families. Caring for animals, especially her cats, was a favorite pastime, but her greatest happiness came from simply spending time with her family.  Her pickles and relish, apple dumplings, black raspberry cobblers, cinnamon rolls often served with homemade ice cream were family favorites.  She also enjoyed outings with lifelong friends Mary Lou, Connie, Judy and Eleanor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings George Riley, Sr., Bertha Brandon, and Louise Fearon; an infant brother, Michael Riley, and a granddaughter, Elaine Chadwell.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 64 years, Carl Chadwell; two children, Dave (Susan) Chadwell and Sonia (Greg) Ferencik; two grandsons, Joshua Ferencik (Ellie Frye) and Lucas Ferencik; a brother, James Riley; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Riley; many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Also, she was very close with family members Betty Chadwell Bebout, Sophie Jean Chadwell Garrity, and Jenny Lynn Bryant Jeffers.

Honoring Roberta’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service.  On Saturday March 16 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM family and friends are invited to the family home in Beallsville.

In keeping with her giving spirit and love of animals, Roberta’s family requests that in lieu of flowers and keepsakes, memorial contributions be made to Crossed Paws Animal Shelter, 41383 Stonehouse Road, Woodsfield, Ohio 43793.
